How to learn all your chords on the neck by using the CAGED sequence! 5 Primary chord voicings used to construct any kind of chord by applying chord formulas.

Here are the voicings for all 5 shapes reading from the lowest tone or string.

C shape = 1-3-5-1-3

A shape = 1-5-1-3-5

G shape = 1-3-5-1-3-1

E shape = 1-5-1-3-5-1

D shape = 1-5-1-3

The numbers indicate the degree or note from the scale in which the notes were taken. example.. the C major scale consists of the notes C=1 D=2 E=3 F=4 G=5 A=6 B=7. When constructing a chord using a Tertian (Thirds) method you would select a note, and from that point select every other note, till you have a total of three notes. That’s how easy it is!

Example…If I select C=1 then I would skip D=2 and select E=3, skip F=4 and select G=5 giving me three notes C=1-E=3-G=5, or 1-3-5. Any combination of these three notes will play a C Major chord. This process can be continued from each note of the scale giving you the diatonic corrasponding chords.

C Major, D minor,E minor,F Major,G Major, A minor (Relative Minor), and B minor flat 5th or diminished 5th.

These are the chords you would use to compose a chord progression or vamp for writing in the key of C Major.

a good exercise for learning this is to make a blank guitar neck grid sheet. Replace all the notes with numbers starting with C as 1. Use this to find all the CAGED shapes. It is also great for melodic phrasing when learning how to use target notes. Target notes are notes to stress or resolve to that best capture the essence of the chord you are soloing over.

Example… If I am soloing over a C major chord I would stress the notes C E G or even B if it was a Major 7 chord. From the same key you will notice that a D minor chord uses D,F,A, or 2-4-6. Stress those tones if that chord comes up. This is obviously a generic way to play but a good foundation for understanding target notes and melodic soloing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Learning to play the acoustic guitar is great. Acoustic guitars bring the notion of uniqueness to a whole new level. Just give it a go and you will see. Just to see what you look like holding one. You are convinced that if you have the time to learn, you would be fine? You do not know whether it’s easy or hard to play the acoustic guitar but you have a musical ear? It’s time for you to take the step and begin your musical journey.

It is some achievement to learn to play the acoustic guitar and most of my friends who have never tried it do not know where to start. It is as if they were getting all shy when seeing one. When you start playing your first notes, you feel like there is no limit to it. It is only a mental cap to pass. Being able to step out of the comfort zone to challenge yourself is something you can do too.

However, just keep one thing in mind: learning to play the acoustic guitar is not similar to magic. When you pick up a new language at school, you go through this period of assimilating new rules and new patterns. At the beginning you find it hard and then, little by little, you become more comfortable with the tools you possess. Then, you start broadening and improving your range of vocabulary, expressions and sentence structures. The same is true with learning to play the acoustic guitar

Once you’ve got the idea of how to play basic notes and -hopefully not long after- how to read guitar tabs, do a web search for easy acoustic guitar tabs and pick out a very basic song that you know well and play around with it. Although reading and playing acoustic guitar tabs does take some getting used to, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can learn to play the acoustic guitar.

If you have a favorite song, being able to hear the song that you’re working on always makes it easier to learn. Even if you think you remember how it goes, listening to it while you’re learning it will help you with rhythm and detail.

Keep in mind that acoustic guitars were created to be played. There are a lot of easy songs you can learn, whether it is from The Eagles, James Taylor or Joni Mitchell. You will never regret the decision you have made to learn to play the acoustic guitar.

A guitar chord progression chart doesn’t need to be complex to sound good.  When musicians look at a chord progression chart they often look for simple chord progressions. This is especially true with many guitar players. What is one simple guitar chord progressions? Where did it come from?

Â

A Simple Guitar Chord Progression and It’s Mechanics

Â

One simple guitar chord progression is the I, IV, V, iv chord progression. In order to understand this progression more clearly we should look at an example. Let’s look under the hood of a C major chord progression (A major chord progression is often simply called a chord progression.).

Â

Major Scales and How They Contribute to Progressions

Â

First, we must know the C major scale because it has the same letter name as a C chord. The C major scale has a C, D, E, F, G, A and B note. We will call the C note the 1st note and the D note the 2nd note etc. A chord progression comes from the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th notes. Therefore, the C chord progression is made up of the C, F, G, and A minor chords (The sixth note leads to a minor not a major chord.). Now we know how to get major chord progressions. How about minor chord progressions?

Â

Under the Hood of Minor Chord Progressions

Â

A common minor chord progression is the i, iv, V progression. Let’s say we want to find a C minor chord progression. A minor chord progression is made up of the 1st, 4th and 5th notes. The 1st and 4th notes become minor chords because the Roman numerals are lowercase (i, iv). On the other hand, the 5th note becomes a major chord because the Roman numeral is uppercase (V). Anyways, the i chord will be a C minor chord. The iv chord will be a F minor chord. Finally, the V chord will be a G chord. How about some different progressions that are not common to rock or folk music?

Â

Different Chord Progressions

Â

Some common jazz progressions include the ii, V7, I form. Jazz also has forms like I, vi, ii, V7 and the ascending II, VII, II VII. Which chord progressions should we learn?

Â

What Beginners Should Study

Â

I would advise beginners to study the I, VI, V, vi chord progression. Of course, popular musicians do not always use this progression though it’s very common. However, it gives us a basic understanding of music and music theory. If we know this progression in every key then we can sound very professional despite inexperience. Of course, we should also know guitar tuning, rythym (I would advise learning basic drumming though it’s not the only way.), chord memorization and a basic knowledge of the guitar fretboard chart (root notes, movable chord shapes etc.). Since were discussing scales and thier relations to progressions let’s look at chord construction.

Â

What are chords made of?

Â

A major chord is made up of the C, E, and G notes since C, E and G are the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes in a C major scale. On the other hand minor chords are made up of the 1st, flatted 3rd and 5th notes of a major scale. Therefore a C minor chord would have a flatted E. Finally, 5th chords are composed of only the 1st and 5th notes. So we can say that a C 5 chord is made up of a C and G note. Now, let’s go back to the main topic.

Â

Conclusion

Â

The guitar chord progression chart are for that matter any chord progression chart isn’t difficult to understand. Of course you don’t need to know music theory. For example, you can simply memorize the C major progression (C, F, G) or the D major progression (D, G, A). However, knowing where it came from gives us an edge. For example, some beginner musicians cannot easily play uncommon progressions (For example, a person might want to play a guitar song in C # (sharp)). However, you might be able to easily figure out an uncommon progression without the aid of a chord progression chart. In addition, if you can understand the guitar fretboard chart (and movable chords and scales) then you will be able to quickly find the chords themselves not just the progressions.

Â

Â

Â

In conclusion, the guitar highway begins with many things and one is the chord progression chart.

Â

If you are one of the many people looking to learn guitar notes, what are you going to do with these notes when you learn them? There is an idea alive and well in alot of people’s heads that if you want to learn how to play the guitar, all you need is to find out where to put your fingers to play the notes, and there is nothing more you need to do. In fact, learning the guitar notes is a very small but important part of guitar playing. So let us take a look at the other pieces of the puzzle.

Guitar playing is based more on learning chords than on playing single notes. If you listen to solo guitar playing, it usually consists of a combination of single melody notes, bass notes and chords. Anyway, having established that there is much more to guitar playing than learning guitar notes, let us take a look at these notes we are so anxious to learn.

Standard tuning for a six string guitar is, starting at the lowest note, EÂ AÂ DÂ GÂ BÂ E. If we take an acoustic guitar without a cutaway body as having the minimum number of reachable notes, that gives us twelve frets worth of notes to play. But the guitar can only give us a total of thirty-seven different notes, so that means we have lots of different positions on the guitar neck to play the same note.

Now let us go back to basics for a bit. You probably know that musical notes are named after the first seven notes of the English alphabet. At least, they are if you play the guitar in English. So starting with the sixth string that plays the note E, on the first six frets you have F G A B C D, then you start again at E on the seventh fret, right? Wrong! The steps between notes are not uniform.

Starting with the open string E, the first fret is F, but the second fret is not G but F sharp there are sharps after A C D F and G. There are no sharps between B and C or between E and F. So if we look at the sixth guitar string again, instead of starting the next octave with E on the seventh fret, we start with E on the twelfth fret.

So let us look at the notes on all the strings of the guitar up to the twelfth fret:

E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E

B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B

G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G

D D# E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D

A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A

E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E

So the notes at the twelfth fret of each string on the guitar are the same as the notes sounded by the open strings. You can use this diagram to pick out tunes if you already know how to read music. If you do not know how to read music yet, you can start finding out how to learn the guitar notes by finding recurring patterns up and down the fretboard.

I like super-ambitious people. They never stop. They know what they want. They do a little bit more than the rest of the crowd to get THERE. They are always interesting to talk to.

Well, unless if they are super-arrogant as well…

Ambitious people know their rights and they don’t trust easily. That’s why ambitious customer would read one hundred of reviews before actually buying a product online. Only because, as my father used to say – “I’m not that rich to pay twice”. He had a point.

So when one of my super-ambitious friends decided to find the best online acoustic guitar lessons, all he did was – he bought acoustic guitar (just to have a start point) and for two weeks he surfed internet to find appropriate lessons which could teach him about acoustic guitar from the point where you don’t even know how to hold guitar.

He wanted extremely ambitious things off course out from these lessons.

This online product had to cover every single step about learning process of the acoustic guitar. It had to be especially relevant to beginners and preferably give a promise of fast progress.

It had to be very easy to use with integrated video and audio lessons and all he wanted the most was to get to start plying as soon as possible. My friend thought that the most effective outcomes are being achieved through practice. He even made me to believe it.

He wanted the online acoustic guitar course to be very easy to follow and also he wanted theory to be explained exactly on the moment when he needed to know it. He was a simple man and absolutely hated confusion. But the list does not stop there.

This guy had strong trust issues, so he wanted to find a product with excellent consumers’ reviews.

After he told me all criteria that his search is based on I thought he will never make it. He just wanted far too much, I thought. But that is the thing about super-hyper-ambitious people. They actually KNOW that they will get what they want. So it happened.

My friend can’t stop talking about cords, TAB, jamming along with his favorite bands and the whole benefits that he gets from this amazing online acoustic guitar lessons system. By the way, it’s Jamorama acoustic guitar

I’ve heard him playing already. I even keep wondering if I have got enough ambitions to learn to play guitar myself. On the other hand I don’t think I’m ambitious enough to go through what he did. I’ll just go for Jamorama acoustic. I’ll trust my friend.

Playing guitar can be an ordinary feat to most people. Any person, with the right ear for music, can learn any instrument in a matter of hours. On the other hand, learning how to play blues guitar is almost a form of dexterity that not everyone can master. Blues music has been the foundation of many other genres of music such as Jazz, R&B and even Rock and Roll. The style of music is so captivating that it almost sounds complicated as well. Here are a few facts in order for you to learn how to play blues guitar:

The Technique

The technique in order to play blues guitar comes from the skill in picking. Although essentially, the scales make the music when playing the instrument, it is imperative to construct the picking technique before scales can be played. The guitar can then be played as a Rhythm Blues Guitar or a Lead Blues Guitar. There has to be suppleness in the fingers of the player in order to get the rhythm right.

Knowing the Difference

For the Rhythm Blues Guitar, the chord progression is founded on the twelve bar blues structure. When you play blues guitar, more often than not, the interval cords that are in progression are the I, IV and V, but other cords may also be played so long as the tonality is present in the rhythm. The Lead Blues Guitar, conversely, is more popular in terms of the measure of its expressiveness. It primarily focuses on the technical skills of vibrato and bending. The pick’s basic motion is up and down, alternating in every turn.

In an example by James Ham, if there is a basic riff with the notes A,C,D,A,E one after another, the A would be played with a downward picking motion while the C would be played directly after the A with an upward motion. This is playing two notes in one motion. You can also try playing a 12-bar chord progression in different keys, in the same way as when you play a rhythm blues guitar in pentatonic scale. Try practicing this rhythm pattern continuously until you get the hang of the beat.

Getting Props

There are also several audio samples of blues records available online. Most of which can be downloaded for free. These samples may be played in both slow and full speed, helping you learn to pace your rhythm during mastering your picking technique. Although agility is integral when you play blues guitar, you must also concentrate on the accuracy of each note that you play and focus on your scales. Fluid rhythm and chord progression are fundamental in making blues music. You can also get a book that offers superb guitar licks that can help you practice.

Expression

As you play blues guitar, or any instrument at that, it is always important to practice. It is in practicing that we master our art and our passion. You can also sing along as you strum the guitar, after all, the blues music is all about expression.
